Sabah’s Covid statistics worrying with escalating death cases

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 death cases in Sabah today has now escalated to a worrying 84 cases, the highest since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that of the total death cases, Kota Kinabalu recorded the highest with 18 new cases, followed by Sandakan (14), Kota Belud (10), Penampang (nine), and Tawau (seven).
“As for other districts, Lahad Datu, Kota Marudu, and Pitas each recorded four new death cases, Tuaran (three), Keningau, Putatan, Papar, and Tenom (two), and one each in Semporna, Kunak and Nabawan.
“However the number of Covid-19 daily cases in Sabah has significantly dropped to 1,717 cases, bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 165,439," he said in a statement today.
Masidi who is also the Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah stated that close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 977 which is 56.9 per cent of the total daily cases.
This was followed by symptomatic screening (464), cluster screening (67), targeted screening (two), and the rest is in other categories.
“As of 11 Sept, 51 per cent of Sabah's adult population has completed their vaccination, while only 67.4 per cent has gotten their first jab.
“According to COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) statistics, currently 100 per cent of the adult population in Beaufort and Putatan have already taken at least one dose, this was followed by Kuala Penyu with 94 per cent, Kota Kinabalu 88 per cent and Sipitang 82 per cent,” he added.
Masidi also stated that a total of 1,950 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 148,248.
The number of active cases now stands at 4,858 with 3,146 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,631 at hospitals, 10 in private facilities and the rest in temporary detention centres.
"To date, there are 216 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 80 of them ventilated,” he said.
