13 November 2024

KOTA KINABALU: The exchange of documents between SBH Kibing Solar New Energy (M) Sdn Bhd and two Sabah government-linked companies (GLC) for its new RM7.2 billion solar glass manufacturing plant at Kimanis was witnessed by the

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor today.

The Chief Minister said the new investment is significant in generating further economic growth for Sabah and creating employment opportunities for the local communities.

The first step involved the signing of a sublease agreement between SBH Kibing and Fokasrama Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Sawit Kinabalu Group.

This agreement paves the way for the establishment of a state-of-the-art solar glass manufacturing plant, which is set to become one of the largest facilities of its kind in the region.

This development is part of SBH Kibing’s strategy to expand Sabah's renewable energy infrastructure, strengthen its position in the global solar energy market, and complement the company’s existing plant located at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP).

The new solar glass facility also highlighted Kibing's commitment to renewable energy growth within Sabah and establishing a key manufacturing site in Sabah. Representing Fokasrama Sdn Bhd was Sawit Kinabalu Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Datuk Victor Ationg, while its Chairman William Chen represented SBH Kibing Solar New Energy (M) Sdn Bhd.

The second exchange of documents was for the Heads of Agreement between SBH Kibing Solar New Energy (M) Sdn Bhd and Sabah Energy Corporation Sdn Bhd (SEC) to supply 45 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of natural gas to support the new factory's operations.

As Sabah's primary natural gas provider, SEC continues to play an important role in driving regional economic growth through reliable and cleaner energy solutions.

Representing SEC was its Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Adzmir Abd Rahman and Celine Li, the Deputy Managing Director of SBH Kibing Solar New Energy.

Present were Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, SEC Chairman Datuk Annuar Ayub, State Secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Sr Haji Safar Untong and senior officials representing the signing parties.

The Chief Minister later chaired the Sawit Kinabalu and Borneo Samudera Board of Directors meeting.
