KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Energy Council (MTS) in its second meeting has approved several critical projects for the development of generation with a total capacity of 700 Megawatts towards restoring the state’s grid system.
The Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, stated that among the main projects are the Hydroelectric Project and the Natural Gas Power Plant to ensure adequate electricity supply in the state now and in the future.
He said the MTS meeting also heard feedback from the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) regarding the developments of other important generation projects that have been followed up since the decisions made in the first MTS meeting in June.
“This includes decisions on the implementation of future energy source projects, namely the potential and methods for extensive hydropower development in Sabah through the Sabah Hydro Development Masterplan currently being carried out by ECoS, as well as the development methods for the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) plant through the Pilot Project Concept,” he said after chairing the second MTS meeting at Menara Kinabalu on Thursday.
Hajiji hopes that all the efforts undertaken will bring the best benefits in realising reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy achievements for now and the future.
He stated that this is in line with the Energy Master Plan - Sabah Energy Roadmap and Masterplan 2040 (SE-RAMP 2040) for the progress of Sabah and to benefit the people of the state.
MTS was established following the transfer of energy regulatory powers from the Federal Government to Sabah and to replace the Electricity Supply and Tariff Planning and Implementation Committee (JPPPET) Sabah.
