SICC hosting Sabah Day Tamu and luncheon to celebrate auspicious occasion

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) will host the Sabah Day Tamu and Sabah Day luncheon, catering to 3,500 people on August 31, 2024.
This transformion will occur when it turn into a vibrant venue to celebrate the inaugural Sabah Day on that historic day.
“The convention centre will be transformed into a bustling traditional marketplace, showcasing an array of local crafts, products, and delicacies curated by Sabahan artisans,” said Datuk Rosmawati Lasuki, the Chief Executive Officer, during a press conference here.
With around 400 vendors participating, visitors can immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere of the traditional marketplace and experience Sabah's cultural richness, she said.
Rosmawati added: “The Sabah Day Tamu is more than just a celebration of local craftsmanship; it is a strategic platform to showcase products with potential international appeal.
“By creating this immersive tamu experience, we aim to support small business entrepreneurs, foster connections and opportunities for growth, and stimulate economic development in the region.”
The tamu is set to be a memorable celebration that highlights SICC's commitment to promoting cultural heritage and economic development, she said.
The luncheon will feature a traditional 'hidang' style feast, a culinary practice deeply rooted in Sabah's heritage.
Guests will be treated to a selection of meticulously prepared and beautifully arranged platters, offering a feast that delights both the eyes and the palate.
Known for its communal and celebratory spirit, the 'hidang' style will emphasize the rich flavors and cultural importance of Sabahan cuisine.
Seats for the luncheon are still available at RM35.00 nett per person, with a minimum booking of 10 persons.
This year's celebration is further distinguished by SICC's recent recognition at the Brand Laureate Best Brands Awards 2024.
The award was presented by the World Brands Foundation (TWBF) at a ceremony held on August 22, 2024, at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
Reflecting on the significance of the event, Rosmawati stated, “We are thrilled to receive the Nation's Pride Award, which underscores our commitment to showcasing Sabah's unique cultural and historical contributions on a global scale. This recognition inspires us to further elevate Sabah as a premier destination for international business and cultural events.”
To enhance convenience for visitors, the Kumpool ride-sharing service will be available on August 31, providing transportation to SICC from locations such as Imago Mall, Suria Sabah, Tanjung Aru Beach, and other key points.
