KOTA KINABALU: Those who fail to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set for social gatherings will face stern action, said Local Government and Housing Datuk Masidi Manjun.

He said this was agreed upon after taking into account of the current worrying Covid-19 situation in Sabah and those who are found to have violated the SOPs can be fined up to RM10,000.

"The State Government warns the community or individuals who hold social events and gatherings such as feasts, weddings and engagements, receptions, aqiqah ceremonies, prayers, tahlil, birthday celebrations, reunions and retreats to cooperate in full compliance with the SOP," he said in a statement, here, today.

According to Masidi, the public is also recommended for such events to be held in moderation or postponed temporarily.

"Such events are not allowed in districts or areas under the Movement Control Order (MCO) and the Enhanced MCO," he said.

For those in districts not placed under MCO or EMCO, registration through the Sabah Trace application is encouraged to facilitate the monitoring of SOPs by the enforcement authorities.
