Tap into tourism for business and job opportunities

KIULU: Sabah’s youth should seize the business and employment opportunities presented by rural tourism.
Datuk Joniston Bangkuai the chairman of the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) highlighted Kiulu as a prime example, noting that the establishment of over 80 tourism-related businesses in the area has created 400 full-time and part-time jobs.
Joniston, the Kiulu Assemblyman, emphasised that ongoing engagement in tourism is vital for ensuring long-term prosperity for rural communities.
He spoke at the closing ceremony of the Holistic Service Experience Programme held at Riverbug Base Camp and The Adventure Centre today.
This programme, organised by North Borneo University College, aims to equip students with essential practical skills and leadership training necessary for success in the hospitality industry.
Also in attendance was Prof. Dato' Sr. Dr. Azimuddin Bahari, vice-chancellor of North Borneo University College.
"Make full use of the knowledge on tourism and hospitality you have acquired in your studies by venturing into the tourism business," said Joniston, who is also Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment.
Joniston noted that Kiulu has become a popular destination for both tourists and international students, particularly for summer camps.
He also encouraged local educational institutions and students to consider Kiulu for team-building and personal development activities.
Joniston added such programmes like this provide valuable academic and hands-on experiences while exposing students to Sabah’s growing tourism sector.
