KOTA KINABALU: Due to a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases in Tawau, the district will be placed under a 14-day movement control order (MCO) starting April 3.

Local Government and Housing Datuk Masidi Manjun said the imposition will help ease targeted screening activities and control the movement of the residents in the locality in order to curb the spread.

"To date, a cumulative total of 137 active cases were reported which involve several clusters in the district.

"After a joint risk assessment with various agencies from the MCO Technical Committee and upon the advice of the Ministry of Health (MoH), the State Government has agreed to impose EMCO in the district from April 3 to April 16," he said in a statement today.

Today, Sabah registered a total of 63 new Covid-19 cases where Tawau recorded the highest number of cases among other districts with 17.
