THREE NEW COVID-19 CLUSTERS REGISTERED IN SABAH

KOTA KINABALU: Three new Covid-19 clusters have been registered in Sabah today with a cumulative total of 60 positive cases.


Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the clusters are known as the Ambar Park cluster in Tawau, the Indah cluster in Nabawan, and the Kg Baru cluster in Sipitang.


"The Ambar Park cluster in Tawau was recorded in Mukim Sri Tanjung, Tawau through Brought in Dead (BID) of the index case which is a 71-year-old local man who tested positive on June 1.


"Following the case, 45 close contacts have been screened and 15 individuals involving second-generation family contact infections tested positive, bringing the cumulative total to 16," he said in a statement today.


"Twenty-eight contacts tested positive and one more contact is still awaiting results."


Masidi added that approximately 50 family members and social contacts have visited the index case for a prayer ceremony in his house in Kg Kadazan, Ambar Park.


Meanwhile, the Indah cluster Nabawan was detected through an engagement ceremony in Kampung Indah on May 20 involving second-generation transmissions.


"A total of 124 contacts have been screened and 20 of them tested positive, bringing the cumulative total of cases in this cluster to 21.


"A total of 100 individuals tested positive for their first swab while three more individuals are still awaiting result," he stated.


For the Kg Baru cluster in Sipitang, it involves infection among the community of Mukim Sindumin.


According to Masidi, the index case is a 58-year-old man who tested positive on May 26 after being identified as close contact to a positive case.


"The index case has also experienced symptoms such as cough, headache and malaise since May 23. He was also found to have a travel history to Keningau on May 16.


"A total of 23 positive cases have been recorded in this cluster, including 13 new cases reported today."
