KENINGAU: A total of 84 patients at Keningau Hospital received care packages and warm wishes during a charitable visit organised by three local non-governmental organisations (NGOs), aiming to uplift spirits and spread compassion within the healthcare setting.

The initiative was a collaborative effort between the Bingkor Community Welfare Association, the Keningau Community Mobilisers Organisation, and the Keningau Tourism and Cultural Association.

The programme was led by Chairman of the Keningau District Tourism and Cultural Association, Rafie Datuk Robert, together with Chairman of the Bingkor Community Welfare Association, Yazid Mohd Hasnan Tawik Mansai @ Charles. The visit was also supported by committee members and volunteers from all three organisations.

The outreach activity focused on three main wards at the hospital, with each NGO taking the lead in different areas.

The Bingkor Community Welfare Association visited the adult patients in Ward 3A, the Keningau Community Mobilisers Organisation reached out to patients in Ward 3B, while the Keningau Tourism and Cultural Association visited the paediatric patients in Ward 4A.

Each patient received a care package comprising food items and a symbolic "Basket of Love", reflecting the NGOs’ ongoing commitment to nurturing empathy, compassion, and volunteerism within the community.

The atmosphere was further enlivened by the presence of the 2025 Unduk Ngadau KDCA Keningau, Tati Lesdianaley Matius; Unduk Ngadau KDCA Bingkor, Tati Alvera Tsry; and Buvazoi Tavantang Keningau 2025, Totu Nereus Melvin Chew.

Their appearance provided emotional support and joy, as they interacted with patients and families through friendly greetings and words of encouragement.

Speaking during the visit, Rafie said the programme embodied a holistic approach to community engagement, bringing together elements of care, unity, and human connection.

He emphasised the importance of reaching out to those in need, particularly within healthcare institutions.

“This visit is more than just about giving; it’s about connecting with people and reminding them they are not alone. The presence of the Unduk Ngadau also brought joy and served as an inspiration to everyone involved,” he said.

Keningau Hospital welcomed the gesture and expressed its appreciation to the NGOs for strengthening ties between civil society and healthcare providers. The hospital also acknowledged the positive impact such visits have on patient morale and community wellbeing.

The programme is expected to continue as part of a regular outreach initiative by the NGOs, aimed at fostering solidarity, compassion, and sustained community support.

Also present during the visit were representatives from the office of Bingkor State Assemblyman, members of the Unit Pemimpin Pembangunan Masyarakat (UPPM) for Bingkor, as well as volunteers and officials from the three participating NGOs.
