TWO COVID-19 CLUSTERS DETECTED IN LAHAD DATU, KALABAKAN

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah today registered two new Covid-19 clusters, each in Lahad Datu and Kalabakan, with a cumulative total of 45 positive cases.
In a statement today, Local Government and Housing Datuk Masidi Manjun said the Jalan Kilang Dua cluster in Lahad Datu was detected in a workplace and has a cumulative total of 11 cases.
"The cluster was detected for the second time after the Jalan Kilang cluster was reported at the same location in December last year.
"The index case Is a 37-year-old factory worker who exhibited symptoms and tested positive on April 23 at the district's health clinic," he said.
Masidi added that 10 more close contacts had tested positive following the detection.
"Based on observation, transmissions were believed to have happened during a breaking fast session among the workers at a closed space.
"Close contact tracing activity is now conducted actively," he stated.
Meanwhile, the Umas cluster in Kalabakan was detected in Mukim Brumas with a cumulative total of 34 positive cases.
According to Masidi, the index case who was asymptomatic and tested positive for the virus on April 22 is a licensing manager at Felda Utara Kalabakan.
"Nine of his family members and eight close contacts who frequent the same mosque were also found positive for the virus.
"The index case was believed to have contracted the virus while participating in activities such as breaking fast and moreh distribution with the committee members of the mosque,"
