KOTA KINABALU: Two new Covid-19 clusters have been identified in Kota Belud today known as the Siasai Dundau cluster and Kota Belud Bypass cluster.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the Siasai Dundau cluster involved infections among communities in three districts.
"The index case of the cluster is a woman, 24. from Kg Siasai Dundau who tested positive for Covid-19 through workplace screening on June 28 at the Univesiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Hospital. She had exhibited symptoms such as fever, flu and cough since June 21.
"Following the case, 34 individuals out of 132 individuals have tested positive, including 11 new cases recorded today, bringing the cumulative total to 47 cases," he said in a press statement today.
According to Masidi, 11 of the cases were registered in Kota Kinabalu and one in Penampang.
He said all positive cases have been referred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment and the Kota Belud quarantine centre for isolation.
Meanwhile, the Kota Belud Bypass cluster was first detected at the district hospital when the index case, a 35-year-old woman from Kampung Taun Gusi Keranjangan, tested positive on June 30 after suffering from fever, sore throat and loss of sense of smell since June 28.
"Based on the investigation, the index case was believed to have contracted the virus after visiting a family in Kg Pintasan on June 25.
"A total of 17 close contacts have been found to have contracted the virus and the cumulative number of positive cases in this cluster stands at 18," Masidi disclosed.
