KOTA KINABALU: Nabawan will be placed under the movement control order (MCO) for two weeks starting this Wednesday (March 3).

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said this is due to the surge in Covid-19 cases involving a cluster in the district.

"As of Feb 28. a cumulative total of 177 positive cases have been reported involving 15 villages in the district.

"The government has agreed to place Nabawan under MCO on March 3 to Marc 16, 2021," he said in a press conference today.

Masidi added that the decision was made upon the advice of the Ministry of Health (MoH) after a risk assessment with various agencies and the MCO Technical Committee was conducted.

"The implementation of MCO is to restrict the movement of the residents in this district as well as to curb the spread of Covid-19 among the community," he added.

Nabawan registered a new cluster on Feb 24 dubbed as the Sinsingon cluster which the transmission was believed to have spread among the community after index cases attended a death ceremony for a family member at Kg Sinsingon.
