UCSF Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Shangri-La Tanjung Aru (STAR)

KOTA KINABALU: A significant milestone was reached as the University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) and Shangri-La Tanjung Aru (STAR) formalised their partnership through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru in Kota Kinabalu.
The MOU was signed by Datuk Dr. Rafiq Idris, Vice Chancellor of UCSF, and Conor Hadlington, General Manager of STAR. The event was witnessed by Hanafiah Diman, Corporate Secretary of Yayasan Sabah, and Douglas Joinol, Chief Operating Officer of Innoprise Corporation Sdn. Bhd., alongside management and staff from both institutions.
Conor Hadlington highlighted the importance of the MOU, stating, "This collaboration is a significant step forward in strengthening the relationship between academia and the hospitality industry. We are proud to formalize this partnership, which will open doors for training, internships, and career advancements—not only for UCSF and Shangri-La Tanjung Aru but also for the broader tourism and hospitality sector in Sabah."
Datuk Dr. Rafiq Idris remarked, “This MOU lays the groundwork for a mutually beneficial relationship between our organizations."
He emphasised their joint commitment to collaboration in key areas, including providing internship opportunities for UCSF students and engaging in educational initiatives.
“This partnership has the potential to nurture skilled professionals poised to excel in global eco-tourism ventures,” he added. Dr. Rafiq expressed confidence that the MOU will enhance collaboration and deliver benefits for UCSF, STAR, and various stakeholders throughout Sabah.
