WORKPLACE INFECTION CAUSES NEW COVID-19 CLUSTER IN KK

KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster has emerged in Kota Kinabalu today known as the Agora Borneo cluster due to workplace infection.


In a statement today, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the new cluster instigated from a workplace infection in a hypermarket in 1 Borneo Shopping Mall.


“The index case of the cluster is a 24-year-old assistant saleswoman who tested positive for the Covid-19 virus after having symptoms at Menggatal clinic on June 30,” he said.


According to Masidi, through a close contact screening, 26 more individuals tested positive including 17 new cases today.


“Meanwhile, another 57 samples tested negative and another 50 are still waiting for results,” he added.


Based on early investigation, the infection had also spread to the second generation including family members.


Masidi also stated that close contact screening is still being actively conducted by health officers.
