KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor has called on the people to continue cherishing the significance of Malaysia Day and to celebrate it with a deep sense of patriotism and love for the nation.

“Let us safeguard unity and harmony among the people of diverse races and religions, and ensure that this remains a way of life,” he said in his Malaysia Day message here.

Hajiji reminded that 16 September is a historic date, marking the formation of Malaysia.

“As Malaysians, we must take pride in and always remember this momentous occasion, for it symbolises the birth of our nation as a sovereign and independent country.

“The formation of Malaysia has brought countless blessings and benefits to all levels of society. Yet, the journey of nation-building is far from over and is filled with challenges and obstacles.

“Only through unity, solidarity and togetherness in the interest of our homeland can we overcome these challenges,” he said.

The Chief Minister also urged Malaysians to embrace this year’s Malaysia Day theme, “Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni”, which reflects the government’s commitment to the people’s welfare, grounded in the principles of Malaysia MADANI.

He added that this is also in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan, which places emphasis on the well-being of the people, justice, unity, and equitable development across all segments of society.
