Competitive sports develop talented athletes

KOTA BELUD: Tournaments like the 2nd West Coast Taekwondo Youth and Open Taekwondo Championship 2024 serve as a platform to cultivate a sports culture among taekwondo members of all ages.
Such exposure needs to be carried out continuously so that its impact can be realized, ultimately enhancing health and quality of life and producing potential and outstanding athletes.
Indeed, a sound mind comes from a healthy body. These words demonstrate the importance of a lifestyle enriched with sports activities, ultimately harmonizing every aspect of an individual's life.
Datuk Ewon Benedick the Kadamaian State Assemblyman said this in his speech during the closing ceremony of the 2nd West Coast Taekwondo Youth and Open Taekwondo Championship 2024 held at Botung Sports Complex today. His speech was delivered by Kadamaian State Assemblyman Office Chief Liaison Officer Carlyle Lajimin
“I wholeheartedly support the organization of programs like this, which should strive for maximum participation. These initiatives not only challenge mental and physical strength but also promote teamwork, aligning with our mission to elevate the Ministry of Youth and Sports as a body that cultivates a united, disciplined, and morally upright youth community. Our goal is to advance in both social and economic spheres while fostering a healthy, active, and sports-oriented society that contributes to national unity and development,” Ewon who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooporative said.
“Seize opportunities like this, as tournaments of this nature can instill positive values and enhance personal well-being, ultimately contributing to the development of quality human capital. Furthermore, this tournament will exemplify the spirit of sportsmanship and determination. I encourage you to use this opportunity to assess each other's capabilities.”
The event held for four days from September 18 to 21, saw participation from 1400 people as compared to 800 last year.
Also present during the event was the President of Taekwondo Sabah, Francis Langkab who was also the Chairperson of the Organising Committee.
The next championship will be held in January 18 to 21, 2025 at Ranau Sports Complex.
