RANAU: Development in the Kundasang State Constituency (DUN) is being carried out comprehensively and inclusively across all villages, reflecting the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Government’s strong commitment to ensuring the well-being of the people at the grassroots level.

Kundasang Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, said various development projects, including the construction of mini halls, suspension bridges and roads, have been implemented to ensure that every area benefits fairly.

“Development is carried out equally in all villages. I’m pleased to see that many homes are now in much better condition than before. It is the government’s duty to provide the best possible assistance and services for the people’s well-being,” he said.

He was speaking at the Mirumo-rumo gathering with the community at several District Polling Centres (PDM) within the Kundasang constituency.

The programme was part of a four-day tour that began on 15 October, covering villages such as Kaingaran, Wayan, Tumbalang, Kieyep, Nalumad, Togop Darat, Sinurai and Karagasan. The event also included the official opening of a new mini hall.

Dr Joachim said that throughout the visit, he had the opportunity to engage directly with local residents and hold dialogue sessions.

“If given the people’s mandate, GRS will continue to advance development in this constituency and across Sabah,” he affirmed.

He also stressed that beyond physical development, the State Government under GRS, in collaboration with Pakatan Harapan (PH), remains committed to strengthening Sabah’s political autonomy and defending the rights of its people.

“Do not be mistaken, we want our own people to lead Sabah. The slogan ‘Our Home, We Protect’ is not mere political rhetoric, but a guiding principle to ensure that Sabahans continue to be trusted to govern the state in their own way,” he asserted.

According to him, the cooperation between GRS and PH does not diminish Sabah’s position as the primary driver of state administration but instead strengthens development ties with the Federal Government.

“We are the ones steering Sabah, while the Federal Government complements and supports our efforts,” he explained.

Dr Joachim also expressed appreciation to all parties involved in making the programme a success and pledged to continue championing the people’s interests if given the mandate again after the 17th State Election (PRN).

He added that the GRS Government also prioritises welfare and human capital development, including through increased student scholarships and the Rumah Mesra SMJ housing initiative, which will see its quota raised to 50 units per constituency if re-elected.

Also present at the event were Dr Joachim’s wife, Datin Seri Linda Ewit, Kundasang constituency officers, and local leaders.
