Covid-19: Sabah records 1,255 new cases, 19 deaths

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah today has slightly dropped to 1,255 compared to yesterday 1,356, bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 186,832.


In a statement today, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the number of Covid-19 death cases is still soaring high with 19 new cases reported today.


He added that of the total death cases today, Lahad Datu recorded the highest with five new cases, followed by Tawau and Sandakan (four), and one each in Putatan, Beaufort, Penampang, Kudat, Kalabakan and Kota Kinabalu.


“Close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 602 which is of the total daily cases.


"This was followed by symptomatic screening (357), cluster screening (86), and the rest is in other categories," he said in a statement today.


Masidi who is also the Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah said that the number of cases in Category One and Two is 1,191, Category Three (six), Category Four (10), and Category Five with only 10 cases,” he added.


He stated that a total of 2,129 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 162,543.


The number of active cases now stands at 3,959 with 2,468 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,418 at hospitals, seven in private facilities and the rest in temporary detention centres.


"To date, there are 180 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 67 of them ventilated," he stated.
