TAWAU : United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) Supreme Council Member Marcellus Tambud attended the Gala Night of the 2025 Tawau District-level Kaamatan Festival, a traditional event that serves as the prelude to the main Kaamatan celebration scheduled for 17 May.

The Gala Night featured the Sugandoi (singing) competition, as well as a parade of Unduk Ngadau contestants in several special categories such as Tati Topiodo, Tati Tosuau, and Best Costume — a beautiful manifestation of the enduring culture and customs of the Kadazandusun community.

In his statement, Marcellus Tambud expressed pride and inspiration at the warm reception from Tawau’s multicultural community and praised the strong commitment of all parties involved in the success of the event.

“I am truly honoured to be here with the people of Tawau to celebrate this Kaamatan Gala Night. This vibrant and colourful celebration reflects the deep spirit of unity, appreciation for cultural heritage, and active youth participation in preserving tradition,” he said.

He further stated that Kaamatan is more than just a festival, it represents the strength of the community, the value of mutual cooperation, and gratitude for the land’s bounty which sustains the people of Sabah.

“Kaamatan is a symbol of unity and the cultural identity of the people of Sabah. It must be preserved and strengthened so it can be passed on to future generations,” he added.

He also extended his heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to all who contributed to the success of the Gala Night and called for the spirit of Kaamatan to remain an inspiration in building a more united and harmonious Sabah.
