KOTA KINABALU: Determined to ensure no family is left behind, Rotary Clubs across Sabah have united to deliver urgent aid and restore hope to communities devastated by floods and landslides in Penampang.

The disaster left homes buried in thick mud, clean water supplies compromised and food distribution severely disrupted. Landslides worsened the crisis, destroying property and blocking key village roads, cutting off access to outside help.

Among the worst affected were the villages of Kg Sagumou Madsiang, Kg Tindai, Kg Kaambazan, Kg Boliga and Kg Sarapung.

In response, the Rotary District 3310 Disaster Response Team, backed by the District Governor and Regional Disaster Relief Committee Chairs, launched a coordinated mission to reach affected families quickly and effectively.

On 19–20 September, the Rotary Club of Likas Bay joined forces with RC Penampang (lead club), RC KK South and RC KK Pearl to distribute 400 essential food packs. Volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure families received the supplies they urgently needed.

“People of Action proves the spirit of Rotary in action,” said Aldrin Wong, President of the Rotary Club of Likas Bay. “By coming together as one Rotary family, we have delivered not only food, but also hope, love and reassurance to those who have lost so much.”

The initiative was made possible through the collective effort of Rotarians, volunteers and generous donors. Special appreciation was extended to Servay Supermarket and Sabah Credit Corporation for their steadfast support in making the relief mission a reality.

While the distribution brought immediate comfort, Rotary emphasised that the road to recovery is far from over. Many more villagers remain in need of assistance, and continued community support is vital.

“Every act of kindness, no matter how small, helps bring comfort, relief and hope to those struggling to rebuild,” the Rotary Clubs said in a joint statement.

Through unity, action and compassion, Rotary has not only provided critical aid but also reaffirmed its commitment to standing with Penampang’s flood-hit communities as they work towards recovery.
