KENINGAU: Support from local political parties outside Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) for the formation of the GRS–Unity Government has been described as a bold, principled and forward-looking decision, firmly rooted in the interests of Sabah and the long-term stability of the state.

GRS spokesperson for the Keningau Station Polling District Centre (PDM), Haji Yazid Haji Mohd Hasnan Tawik @ Charles, said the move reflects political maturity, as the welfare of the people and the future of Sabah have been prioritised over narrow political interests, personal sentiments and the hidden agendas of certain quarters seeking to disrupt the state’s political harmony.

He said the decision also sends a clear and unequivocal message that Sabahans reject chaotic politics, misguided manoeuvring and any attempts to undermine the legitimacy of the duly elected state government.

“This is a strong and unmistakable political message. The people want a stable government that is focused on delivering results and consistently implementing development programmes for the benefit of the state,” he said in a statement today.

Yazid stressed that the GRS–Unity Government possesses a strong mandate and unquestionable legitimacy to continue governing Sabah, as well as to carry out state policies and development agendas without succumbing to pressure or divisive tactics from any party.

“The overwhelming support has effectively closed the door on attempts to destabilise the state government. The GRS–Unity Government will continue to move forward, working decisively and without compromise in the interests of the people and the future of Sabah,” he said.

He added that the political consensus achieved is not merely symbolic, but forms a solid foundation for resilient and enduring political cooperation, ensuring that development initiatives, public welfare programmes and economic progress can be implemented effectively and sustainably.

In this regard, Yazid called on all Sabahans, regardless of race, ethnicity or religion, to remain united and to extend their full support to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor and the GRS–Unity Government, so that the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 agenda can be implemented smoothly and without political disruption.

He emphasised the importance of allowing the State Government the space to focus on development, economic empowerment, public welfare and the preservation of political stability, without being distracted by unproductive polemics and political gamesmanship that offer no benefit to the people.

“Sabah does not need politics driven by noise and prolonged conflict. What it needs is strong support, political discipline and unity among the people so that the SMJ 2.0 agenda can be fully realised for the future of the state and generations to come,” he said.

Yazid concluded by stressing that Sabah requires a strong, united and decisive government capable of making strategic decisions in the best interests of the state, rather than a weak administration constrained by divisive politics that ultimately harm the people.
