Villagers Enjoy Upgraded Amenities as Students Gain Education Boost

KENINGAU: Villagers in Kampung Bakiau are set to enjoy improved basic amenities while university students will gain valuable exposure and skills, thanks to two separate initiatives supported by Liawan Assemblyman Datuk Annuar Ayub Aman.

Through his Operations Assistant, Mohamad Raihan Jinode, assistance was channelled to Ramlah Ratno in Kampung Bakiau for the installation of culverts via a communal gotong-royong effort.

The project aims to improve village infrastructure and ease the drainage system, reflecting the spirit of cooperation between the people and their elected representative in creating a more organised living environment.

At the same time, support was extended to the Information Technology Association (PERTEKMA) of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) for its programme “Transcending the Frontiers of Knowledge and Community”, to be held from 24 to 28 November 2025. The initiative will involve 30 students and two lecturers, offering learning experiences beyond the classroom. Programme Director Will Pan Chen Sheng received the contribution on behalf of the association.

The high-impact programme is expected to equip students with organisational management skills, professional communication, leadership, strategic planning and teamwork through direct engagement with communities outside the campus.

According to Annuar, both initiatives complement each other by bringing real benefits to the people—villagers with improved infrastructure, and students with knowledge and experience that will prepare them to lead in the future.

“A better village is built through collective effort, while the younger generation will lead the future with knowledge and experience. These contributions are a sign of support for us to build a more organised and progressive Liawan together,” he said.
