KENINGAU: Wiranita and Wiramuda STAR Liawan organised the Art & Handicraft Bag Project yesterday at the Taman Kali Open Hall, Keningau, in conjunction with National Day.
The programme was attended by Tengku Adlina Marita Tengku Zainal Adlin, wife of Liawan Assemblyman Datuk Annuar Ayub Aman and Chairperson of Pertubuhan Muafakat Titipan Amal Isteri Wakil Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (MUTIARA GRS).
The initiative aimed to equip participants with handicraft skills, encourage appreciation of local art and culture, create opportunities for supplementary income, and foster patriotism among the younger generation.
Activities included a creative handbag-making workshop, sharing sessions on local arts, and engagement with the guest of honour.
Tengku Adlina said independence should be seen not only as freedom from colonial rule, but also as the freedom to create, to be self-reliant and to build a better future. She added that handicraft activities allow participants to preserve cultural heritage while developing their skills.
D Annuar, who was present to show support, commended the organisers for combining patriotism, creativity and community development in a single programme. He said such initiatives could inspire young people and strengthen the local economy.
The programme was seen to have provided women and youth with creative skills, economic opportunities and a stronger sense of patriotism, while also helping to preserve cultural heritage.
