KOTA KINABALU: DAP Sabah Women’s Chief Bronica Sikula has congratulated three of the party’s prospective women candidates announced by DAP Malaysia Secretary-General Anthony Loke during the DAP–Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate unveiling ceremony held today at the Magellan Sutera Resort, Kota Kinabalu.

The three candidates are Datuk Jannie Lasimbang (N.25 Kapayan), Vivian Wong (N.55 Elopura), and Tang Tzu Ching (N.56 Tanjong Papat). Another prospective woman candidate from the interior region is expected to be announced soon.

Bronica said the announcement demonstrates DAP Sabah’s firm commitment to promoting women’s leadership, with four of the eight state election candidates being women — representing 50 per cent of the total, and exceeding the long-standing 30 per cent target championed by women’s advocacy movements.

“Although only three women candidates were announced today, the DAP Secretary-General confirmed that half of DAP Sabah’s candidates are women. This reflects DAP’s courage and confidence in women’s ability to lead,” she said.

She added that the decision aligns with the DAP Sabah Women’s Convention Resolution and the Sabah Women’s Aspiration 2025 Commitment, which call for renaming the ministry responsible for women’s affairs to the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Well-being, and for ensuring that the ministerial post is held by a woman.

“DAP Sabah has shown that inclusive politics is not mere rhetoric but genuine action. Women are not just supporters, they are the driving force for change,” she asserted.

Bronica also urged women across Sabah to unite in supporting DAP’s women candidates in the upcoming state election.

“This is the moment for Sabah’s women to show that we have the courage to lead and the courage to make a difference,” she concluded.
