KOTA KINABALU: Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Sabah Chief Chan Loong Wei has accused Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) President Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan of attempting to deflect public scrutiny over corruption allegations by slandering Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Chan said it was “disgraceful” for a seasoned politician like Jeffrey to resort to “cheap and desperate tactics” to prolong his political career.

Citing a Malaysiakini report, Chan noted that whistleblower Albert had released 12 WhatsApp screenshots allegedly showing Jeffrey repeatedly accepting bribes between April and December 2023.

“These included transactions disguised as ‘Christmas gifts’ and ‘land purchase fees’, further fuelling suspicions of Jeffrey’s involvement in corruption,” Chan said.

“The conversations even show Jeffrey demanding RM200,000 for a land deal, soliciting additional funds for personal expenses, and repeatedly requesting money for festive celebrations and travel. He even shamelessly used the phrase ‘Klu ada Christmas gift’ to solicit bribes directly from Albert. This is undeniable evidence of corruption in black and white.”

Instead of addressing the revelations, Chan said Jeffrey has been trying to deflect blame onto PH in an effort to confuse the public and cover up the scandal.

“Jeffrey’s corruption scandal has nothing to do with PH. These are allegations he alone must answer. The people demand truth and accountability. If Jeffrey is truly innocent, then he should face these accusations directly instead of hiding behind smokescreens,” he said.

“The more Jeffrey plays these diversion games, the more it shows he is guilty and fearful. The rakyat can see clearly who is really mired in corruption.”

Chan stressed that PH remains committed to integrity, accountability, and good governance, and will not be derailed by such diversion tactics.

“Politics must return to its roots, serving the people, addressing bread-and-butter issues, and building a better society. It cannot be hijacked by corrupt individuals trying to wash away their wrongdoings with dirty tricks,” he added.

He also urged Jeffrey to stop scapegoating PH and distracting the public with narratives such as leaving Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) merely to shift focus away from his scandal.

“The people want the truth, not a circus of political theatrics,” Chan concluded.
