KENINGAU : The construction of a 200-metre concrete drain in Kampung Bingkor Baru has been successfully completed, effectively resolving long-standing drainage issues that had frequently led to flash floods in the area.
The project was carried out as part of the state government’s efforts to upgrade basic rural infrastructure, particularly in areas that are regularly affected during the rainy season.
According to the Chairman of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Bingkor Baru, Florian Ilon Sipin, this high-impact initiative was due to the support of Datuk Robert Tawik, Assistant Minister of Works Sabah and Bingkor State Assemblyman, in addressing community issues through practical solutions.
“With this new concrete drain in place, the drainage system has improved significantly, and the risk of flooding has been reduced. This comes as a great relief to the residents,” he said when met at the project site.
The construction forms part of Robert’s rural development agenda, encapsulated in the slogan “Bingkor Developing with the People”, which emphasises an action-oriented leadership approach since 2020.
The initiative is also expected to contribute to improving residents’ quality of life and serves as an example of how small-scale projects can deliver a significant impact on the local community.
