KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Farmers’ Organisation (PPNS) has expressed its deepest appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Anwar Ibrahim for announcing an increase in interim payments to Sabah from RM600 million to RM1.5 billion while the implementation of the state’s 40 per cent share of federal net revenue is being finalised.

PPNS chairman Datuk Mohd Nazri Abdullah said the historic announcement demonstrates the MADANI Government’s seriousness and commitment to addressing Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) in a phased and responsible manner.

On behalf of farmers, livestock rearers and fishers across Sabah, he thanked the Prime Minister for his concern and the bold decision that will bring significant benefits to the state.

“This announcement not only reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to implementing MA63, but also shows that Sabah’s development remains a priority under Malaysia MADANI,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Nazri said the additional funding is expected to help the state government strengthen and implement development programmes that will have a direct impact on the people, particularly in agriculture, livestock, fisheries, rural infrastructure, water supply, roads and other basic amenities.

He noted that the agri-food sector is a key driver of Sabah’s economy and requires sustained support to increase food production, empower farm entrepreneurs, ensure food security and raise rural incomes.

“We hope the additional allocation received by Sabah will open up more opportunities for the development of agriculture and agri-food, including improved irrigation facilities, agricultural infrastructure, modern technology assistance, training and productivity-enhancement programmes for farmers, livestock rearers and fishers,” he said.

Mohd Nazri described the Prime Minister’s statement that the 40 per cent entitlement for Sabah is a policy that must be implemented as an important assurance that will instil confidence in the people of the state.

He said Sabah’s farming, livestock and fishing communities will continue to support federal and state government efforts to strengthen strategic cooperation, ensuring development is more balanced, inclusive and sustainable for all.

“This announcement sends a clear message that Sabah remains firmly in the national development agenda. We hope negotiations on the full implementation of the 40 per cent entitlement can be finalised soon for the long-term benefit of the people and the state,” he added.
