SANDAKAN : Construction of a gabion wall and road widening along Jalan Estate Connector, Cecily, Karamunting, has commenced to address soil erosion and safeguard the safety of residents and road users.
The project follows years of erosion caused by continuous rainfall, which resulted in landslides and posed risks to the only access route for the surrounding community.
Karamunting Assemblyman, Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin, stated that the project was initiated through the efforts of the Karamunting ADUN Task Force Team, which submitted requests to the relevant authorities for urgent intervention.

He explained that gabion wall installation is being carried out at high-risk areas to stabilise the soil and prevent further landslides. In addition, road widening is being undertaken to improve traffic flow and ensure safer travel.
“This project is essential to protect nearby homes and to guarantee safe access for residents. We are committed to ensuring its timely completion,” he said.
The works will be implemented in phases and are expected to be completed in the near future. Regular monitoring and additional reinforcement measures will also be undertaken to ensure long-term stability.
Meanwhile, the long-standing water supply issue at Bandar Ramai-Ramai Market has been resolved. The leakage of the steel water storage tank, caused by prolonged use, had disrupted supply and affected traders.
Following intervention by the Karamunting ADUN Task Force Team, the Sandakan Municipal Council deployed contractors to carry out repairs. The tank has now been fully restored, and water supply to the market has resumed.
Traders expressed their appreciation to Datuk George and the Task Force Team for the swift action. The team also urged the Sandakan Municipal Council to implement regular inspections and scheduled maintenance to avoid recurrence.
