KOTA KINABALU: Grab Malaysia in a statement said that they were not informed of the open letter to the Prime Minister Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim by Asia Internet Coalition (AIC).

The letter was in regard to the proposed framework specific to social media and instant massaging platforms.

“The proposed regulation does not impact our operations and therefore we had no part in it. We did not and are not commenting on the matter.”

They stated that they remain committed to collaborating with the government, reflecting their mission to contribute to the nation's development.

The Asia Internet Coalition (AIC), an industry association representing prominent Internet and technology companies, has recently expressed apprehensions regarding Malaysia's forthcoming licensing system for social media and private messaging platforms.

In an open letter directed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the AIC underscored the potential adverse effects of the proposed licensing framework on the digital economy.

The coalition, comprising companies like Meta, Google, Apple, Snap, and Grab, contends that the new regulations may impede innovation, discourage investments, and impose excessive compliance obligations on businesses.
