SANDAKAN: Residents of Kampung Kombo can now breathe a sigh of relief after a steep pathway in their area was finally equipped with new fencing and handrails, significantly reducing the risk of accidents that had frequently occurred in the past.
The pathway, which leads to a cluster of wooden houses on a hillside, had long been a cause for concern after several residents, including elderly individuals, slipped and fell due to the steep incline. The situation also caused anxiety among parents worried about their children’s safety whenever they used the route.
Concerned by the situation, former Karamunting Assemblyman Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin, together with his team from the Karamunting Assemblyman’s Task Force, took prompt action by installing fencing and handrails along the path to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
“The safety of residents is our top priority. Sometimes small projects like this can make a huge difference in people’s daily lives. These fences and handrails may seem simple, but they can save lives,” said George.
Residents welcomed the initiative and expressed their gratitude to George and his team for their concern and commitment to community wellbeing.
In addition, the Karamunting Assemblyman’s Task Force also installed solar lights along nearby sections of the path to make night-time movement safer and more convenient. Residents described the effort as a positive step, reflecting the team’s ongoing commitment to the safety and welfare of the local community.
