NEW DELHI: A Malaysian national rescued by the Indian navy from a merchant ship is receiving medical treatment in Mumbai.
The Malaysian was medically evacuated on Thursday and is recovering well at a hospital, the High Commission of Malaysia told Bernama on Monday.
"Family members of the Malaysian have been notified and updated on the matter. The Consulate General of Malaysia in Mumbai is in close contact with the hospital and will continue to monitor any developments, as well as render necessary consular assistance," the High Commission said, appreciating the Indian navy's assistance to the patient.
The Malaysian, identified in Indian media reports as a 34-year-old woman, was suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease and experiencing difficulty in breathing when the medical evacuation was undertaken from the Singapore-flagged ship MV Eagle Tampa, 18 nautical miles off the coast of Mumbai, according to the reports. -Bernama
