Mid-Autumn Festival Strengthens Unity and Cultural Appreciation

SANDAKAN: The Mid-Autumn Festival celebration at SJK (C) Ming Zhong Sandakan reflects the spirit of unity and mutual respect among Malaysia’s diverse communities, said Datuk Zakaria Mohd Edris JP.

Speaking at the school’s Mid-Autumn Festival Fellowship Dinner, Datuk Zakaria congratulated the organisers for successfully hosting the event, describing it as meaningful in promoting harmony through cultural understanding.

“The Mid-Autumn Festival symbolises family values, unity, and harmony. Through celebrations like this, students can learn to appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture while fostering mutual respect among different races,” he said.

He added that education plays a vital role not only in imparting knowledge but also in shaping students’ character, morals, and identity.

“When our children are exposed to noble values such as respect, tolerance, and compassion, they will grow into open-minded individuals capable of living in harmony within a multicultural society,” he said.

Datuk Zakaria also commended the school, the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), and parents for their commitment and cooperation in making the programme a success.

“Such efforts reflect a strong sense of community and shared responsibility in supporting the growth of students and the school,” he said.

He expressed hope that similar programmes would continue to be held in the future to further strengthen interethnic relations and build a society based on understanding, love, and mutual respect.
