KOTA KINABALU: A contribution of RM100,000 to support the Penampang Che Hor Khor Moral Uplifting Society’s Lodge and Cultural Centre Building Fund was announced by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Seri Christina Liew.
She made this declaration during the officiating of the Threefold Celebration to commemorate the Sacred Birthday of the Principal Deity, Lord Li Daoming; the 23rd Anniversary of the Society’s founding; and the 21st Anniversary of its Free Medical and Medicine Unit, held on Sunday evening.
Calling for concerted efforts to accelerate the construction of the lodge and cultural centre on a 6.6-acre site at Bukit Padang, Liew expressed her optimism that once completed, the impressive architectural structure would serve not only as the Society’s official premises but also as a significant tourist attraction.
“This positive development will not only advance the Society’s spiritual and charitable missions but will also add a new landmark to Sabah’s tourism landscape, bringing benefits to both the organisation and the state’s economy,” she said.
She urged leaders and members of the Society to unite in both spirit and action to see this noble project brought to fruition swiftly. “May the new lodge be built successfully and as soon as possible,” she added.
The projected cost of constructing the lodge and cultural centre is approximately RM52 million. An artist’s impression of the complex reveals a pagoda-like structure designed in the traditional De Jiao style, which reflects Chinese moral values and cultural heritage.
According to Wong Sound Sing, President of the Che Hor Khor Moral Uplifting Society in Penampang, the development and building plans are currently undergoing approval from the relevant authorities.
“We have already commenced earthworks and aim to complete the project within three years, hopefully by the end of 2027,” Wong stated.
