PUTATAN: Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and private sector players have been encouraged to contribute to community welfare initiatives, particularly as the new school term is set to begin next week.

Putatan Member of Parliament Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya said such involvement aligns with the government’s objective of promoting community service and volunteerism, while helping to ease the burden on families preparing for the start of the school year.

He said participation from NGOs and private entities can help raise awareness and provide assistance to those in need, especially parents facing additional expenses related to school preparations.

“NGOs and private sector organisations are welcome to organise community-based activities, especially at this time as the new school term begins on Monday. Initiatives rooted in social responsibility are commendable and support government policies that prioritise the welfare of the people,” he said.

Shahelmey was speaking after attending a Back-to-School Free Haircut Programme held at the Servay Putatan premises on Saturday.

The programme was jointly organised by the P.173 Putatan Parliamentary Office, NGO Dinamik Teras Bakti and the Five Generations Organisation.

Shahelmey praised the cooperation of all parties involved in supporting his parliamentary office’s efforts to assist the local community, noting that approximately 100 residents from the Putatan area took part in the programme.

“Programmes such as this will, God willing, continue to be held from time to time. Greater participation from NGOs and the private sector is strongly encouraged to further serve the community, particularly residents within the Putatan parliamentary constituency,” he said.

Among those present were Senior Special Officer of the Putatan Parliamentary Office Mohd Sufian Matin, Special Officer for Administration and Operations Mahadzir Abd Majid, and Chairman of NGO Dinamik Teras Bakti and PLG Sabah Mohammad Azmi Mohammad Sanni.
