KOTA KINABALU: A total of 42 outstanding STPM students were celebrated at the 2024 District-Level STPM MADANI Outstanding Student Awards Ceremony for Kota Kinabalu, officiated by Datuk Chan Foong Hin, Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities and Member of Parliament for Kota Kinabalu.

In his speech, Chan extended his warmest congratulations to the students for their excellent achievements. He described their success as clear evidence that determination, discipline, and strong support from all parties can lead to outstanding results.

In 2024, a total of 731 STPM candidates from the Kota Kinabalu district sat for the examination, achieving a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.88, surpassing the district's KPI target and exceeding the national average of 2.85.

Even more commendable was the fact that 42 students achieved a CGPA of 3.50 and above, with several attaining a perfect score of 4.00.

Each of them received a cash award of RM300, while 16 special awards worth RM250 each were also presented to top-performing students and schools.

“STPM is a strategic and cost-effective pathway to higher education. I myself am an STPM graduate before continuing my studies at the University of Malaya,” he said, while encouraging more students to consider Form Six as a prime route to university.

He also commended the Kota Kinabalu District Education Office for its continuous efforts in strengthening a progressive and inclusive educational culture.

He noted that in line with the Malaysia MADANI concept, education today is not solely about academic excellence but also about nurturing values, leadership, and career readiness.

The event was also attended by education officers, school principals, teachers, parents, and media representatives.
