TENOM: The Chief of UPKO Tenom Division, Junik Bajit, has called on the government to reduce the cost of haemodialysis treatment from RM13.00 to just RM1.00 per session.
According to him, haemodialysis patients typically require treatment three times a week, resulting in a monthly cost of approximately RM156.00 a significant financial burden, particularly for rural patients and those from low-income backgrounds.
“I urge the government to consider lowering the treatment fee in order to ease the financial strain on patients. They are not only battling health challenges but are also struggling with economic hardship,” he stressed.
Junik, who also serves as President of the Sabah Timugon Murut Ethnic Association (PEMTS), stated that concern for the wellbeing of the people, especially those with chronic illnesses, must be a priority under the Madani government's agenda.
“Even a small contribution like this could have a significant impact on the lives of patients and their families. We want to see more people living with chronic illness able to do so with dignity,” he added.
He further urged that similar forms of assistance be extended throughout Sabah and Sarawak as part of a comprehensive effort to strengthen the social protection network for the people of Borneo.
