Sabah Wushu won three gold and one silver at SUKMA Sarawak

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Wushu athletes secured three gold and one silver medals at the 21st edition of the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) held in Sarawak.


The gold medalists were Amirah Sofea Azlan (female, 48 kg), Dione Bayline Fely (female, 52 kg), and Fyenlly Himon (male, 52 kg) in the Sanda category, while Ericsson Bong Cheng Loong claimed the Silver medal in the Taolu category for Male Gunshu.


This year's performance marked an improvement for the Sabah Wushu team, with one additional gold medal compared to their previous showing at the 20th SUKMA two years ago, where they secured 2 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze.


Sabah Wushu president, Datuk Chin Kim Hiung, welcomed the team officials and athletes back at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) over the weekend. Chin expressed his pride in the team's accomplishments in Sarawak and extended his congratulations to the officials, coaches, and athletes for their hard work and dedication.


“As for exponents who did not win in Sarawak, do not feel discouraged but instead continue focusing on their training for future SUKMA and other competitions,” Chin added.


Meanwhile, Chin who is also the National Wushu Federation deputy president, thanked the state government for extending support and assistance for the development of Wushu in Sabah.


The Sabah Wushu team was represented by 13 exponents in SUKMA Sarawak. The team officials comprised of team leader Lee Hon Yu, coaches Ronald James Tee Chee Xiang, Alexander Fong (Sanda) and Liu Zhen Ling, Lee Tsun Kee, Anson Chin Hong Rui (Taolu).


SUKMA Sarawak is held from August 17 to August 24.
