KUALA LUMPUR: Supporting the Malaysian government’s agenda to promote new energy technologies, industry leader Solarvest Holdings Berhad (“Solarvest”) has become one of the first clean energy companies to publish a comprehensive white paper on its AI-driven Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”). The white paper explains how this technology assists businesses and households in optimising electricity costs, ensuring reliability, and accelerating the move towards a sustainable future.

Under Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s (TNB) new Regulatory Period 4 (“RP4”) tariff, businesses are charged 162% more for their peak electricity demand, known as Maximum Demand (“MD”), increasing from RM37.00 per kW under RP3 to RM97.06 per kW under RP4. This increase also results in an additional RM60,000 per month for every 1,000 kW of MD during peak periods.

Solarvest’s BESS solution shields businesses against these spikes by storing energy during periods of low demand and discharging it during peak hours. A recent Malaysian case study demonstrated MD reductions of up to 65%, delivering a return on investment (ROI) in as little as three years.

Household owners can now combine a solar photovoltaic (“PV”) system with BESS through Malaysia’s Solar Atap programme for greater benefits. By storing excess solar energy generated during the day for use at night, the hybrid system effectively reduces monthly electricity bills and decreases exposure to MD charges and tariff increases.

Key benefits of Solarvest’s BESS solutions:

- Lower electricity costs: BESS smooths out energy spikes during peak hours, reducing utility bills by up to 65%, depending on consumption patterns.

- Operational reliability: Provides backup power during grid outages, ensuring critical operations such as production lines or data centres continue functioning smoothly.

- Flexible financing options: With Solarvest’s “Zero Capex” model, businesses pay a monthly service fee that is lower than the savings achieved, avoiding large upfront investments.

- Support for renewable energy: BESS facilitates better integration of solar and other renewable sources, helping businesses meet their sustainability targets.

Executive Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Solarvest, Dato’ Davis Chong Chun Shiong, said, “Energy efficiency and sustainability are no longer optional—they are essential for both businesses and households. Our BESS enables users to take control of their energy use, cut costs, and improve reliability. Additionally, we have introduced a flexible Zero Capex model, allowing organisations to adopt this technology without upfront costs, by paying only a service fee that is lower than the savings generated. This approach makes clean energy adoption practical and financially rewarding.”

Chong added, “This white paper outlines practical strategies for using BESS to save on electricity, maintain reliable power, and contribute to Malaysia’s clean energy objectives. It demonstrates how energy can be managed as a resource that drives efficiency and sustainability, rather than simply a cost.”

BESS forms part of a broader strategy to support Malaysia’s transition to cleaner energy and the nation’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. By combining intelligent energy storage, AI-driven monitoring, and customised service plans, Solarvest offers not just a product but a comprehensive energy management solution for businesses and households.
