KOTA KINABALU: Kg. Tongkurus Kota Belud, a thriving village in the Kadamaian constituency, is home to approximately 700 people residing in 600 households.

The village boasts a picturesque rural setting characterised by fresh air and lush greenery.

Minsir Lambang, 59, the Village Security and Development Chairman (JKKK), shares that the majority of the villagers are farmers, while some are involved in small-scale oil palm plantations.

Expressing his satisfaction with the representation provided by State Assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick, Minsir emphasises that he has been instrumental in driving substantial progress within the community since he became their Assemblyman in 2018.

Ewon's down-to-earth leadership style and genuine concern for the well-being of his constituents have garnered significant appreciation, Minsir shares.

Minsir further reveals that Ewon has made notable contributions to the local church.

Specifically, the assemblyman allocated RM50,000 toward the construction of an open space hall.

This multipurpose hall has proven invaluable as this allows the church to accommodate more people during services as well as other activities.

"He also generously donated RM5,000 to the local school, which was utilised to construct a small hall. This facility has proven to be invaluable, especially considering the pressing need for additional classrooms to accommodate the growing number of pupils," he shares.

In addition to his support for the school, Ewon has also made a meaningful contribution of RM5,000 to the local mosque to aid in its management and operations.

Minsir emphasises that these actions exemplify Ewon's unwavering dedication to fulfilling his role as an Assemblyman within the constituency.

"As the State Assemblyman and President of United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation ( UPKO) he has consistently carried out his duties with utmost competence and commitment."

Ewon's contributions extend beyond public establishments to individual welfare.

He has played a crucial role in securing homes for the hardcore poor within the village.

"Thanks to his initiatives, three families now have a roof over their heads, significantly improving their living conditions," Minsir shares.

The ongoing construction of a 10.5-kilometre road holds immense significance for Kg Tongkurus and its residents. This asphalted road, stretching from Kg Kondukut to Kg Tongkurus and further to Kg Lahanas, will bring substantial benefits to the community.

The presence of this road will greatly facilitate farmers in transporting their produce to town, as they will no longer have to contend with poor road conditions. It will provide them with a more comfortable and efficient means of transportation.

Minsir expresses his satisfaction with the road development initiatives, highlighting that roads have already been constructed to connect various farmlands.

However, he hopes for the continued construction of more such roads in the future, specifically ones that can accommodate vehicles with machinery.

"I have forwarded my application pertaining to our needs to Ewon, who is also the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development."

Furthermore, Minsir gratefully acknowledges Ewon's financial assistance in constructing a bridge across the river to provide access to the farmland.

This bridge has been instrumental in facilitating agricultural activities and has further enhanced the livelihoods of the villagers.

"We are lucky to have a down-to-earth and people-friendly Assemblyman who engages with the community well."

He thanked Ewon for his constant support and contribution to his village.-ends
