TWO NEW CLUSTERS IN KALABAKAN AND KINABATANGAN INVOLVING WORKPLACES

KOTA KINABALU: Two new Covid-19 clusters have been registered in Sabah today due to workplaces infection.


Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the clusters are known as the Paris Tiga cluster in Kinabatangan, and the Brumas Camp in Kalabakan.


"The Paris Tiga cluster in Kinabatangan involved workplace infection in a factory. The index case is a 41-year-old women clerk who was tested positive on June 18 after having symptoms and was brought to Lahad Datu Hospital.


"Following the case, all 28 close contacts were tested positive, bringing the cumulative total to 29," he said in a statement today.


Masidi added, all individuals who were tested positive were brought to Kinabatangan Hospital and quarantine centres for further treatments.


“As for today, further investigation such as Covid-19 sampling and disinfection activities are still being conducted on the field to valuate any infection and possible risk that the disease has spread to other workers or farms,” he stated.


Meanwhile, the Brumas Camp in Kalabakan has emerge also due to workplace and community infection.


"The index case is a 50-year-old male teacher in SK Brumas. He was tested positive in Tawau Clinic on June 12.


A total of 75 closet contacts have been screened and 19 of them tested positive, where among the individuals are the index case’s co-workers, mosque committee members, his wife and two children.


"A total of 100 individuals tested positive for their first swab while three more individuals are still awaiting result.


"Close contact tracing and investigation of causes of infection are still being conducted," he added.
