KUALA LUMPUR: U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, in collaboration with EDOTCO, Malaysia’s national digital infrastructure partner, has introduced the ULTRA5G experience at Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur (MO). Powered by U Mobile’s next-generation 5G network, this initiative underscores the telco’s commitment to delivering the widest and most comprehensive 5G coverage across Malaysia.
This milestone designates MO as the first hotel in Malaysia to achieve full 5G coverage on every floor. Guests on U Mobile’s connectivity plans will be able to enjoy ULTRA5G’s benefits, including seamless, ultra-fast connectivity across the hotel’s ballrooms, meeting rooms, event venues, and communal guest areas.
This is made possible through the installation of comprehensive in-building coverage (IBC) solutions throughout the property. ULTRA5G also enables potential applications such as 4K livestreaming for conferences and ultra-immersive virtual meetings, thanks to its low latency, high capacity, and network slicing capabilities.
“U Mobile is delighted that our ULTRA5G experience is now available at Mandarin Oriental, supported by EDOTCO’s 5G in-building coverage infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity on every floor. This initiative paves the way for smart hotel applications powered by 5G, offering advantages such as improved efficiency, safety, and enhanced guest experiences. It also unlocks potential for innovative services like 4K conference livestreaming and ultra-immersive virtual meetings, which will elevate the hotel and the MICE sector. This is just the beginning of our 5G journey with EDOTCO, as we aim to extend the ULTRA5G experience to more high-impact locations nationwide, including airports, hospitals, and convention centreshighlighting our dedication to providing Malaysia with the most extensive and deepest 5G coverage,” said Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile.
“We are proud to be U Mobile’s first partner in deploying 5G in-building coverage. EDOTCO’s neutral-host model ensures faster deployment, eliminates redundant assets, and delivers superior digital experiences. By providing this platform, EDOTCO is enabling building owners, operators, and technology providers to connect seamlessly, thereby unlocking enhanced digital services for Malaysians and driving broader economic benefits for the nation,” stated Gayan Koralage, EDOTCO’s Director of Malaysia Business.
KLCC Property Holdings Berhad (KLCCP), which owns a diverse portfolio of landmark properties within the Kuala Lumpur City Centre development, including MO, welcomed the connectivity upgrades.
Datuk Sr. Mohd Salem Kailany, Chief Executive Officer of KLCCP, remarked, “The availability of 5G at Mandarin Oriental is a crucial step in future-proofing the guest experience and strengthening Kuala Lumpur City Centre’s reputation as a premier destination for hospitality, MICE, and tourism. This collaboration between U Mobile and EDOTCO benefits our tenants and guests while contributing to Malaysia’s digital transformation journey, right from the heart of its capital.”
The ULTRA5G experience at MO builds upon the announcement made earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where U Mobile recognised EDOTCO as one of its preferred IBC partners. U Mobile and EDOTCO will continue collaborating on further expanding ULTRA5G, exploring new possibilities for consumers, enterprises, and industries, with the aim of achieving 80% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA) by the second half of 2026.
