United Nations and Sunway University Ignite Malaysia’s Commitment to Sustainability with 'Rock the Goals 2025'

KUALA LUMPUR: In a powerful collaboration with the United Nations, Sunway University hosted the 'Rock the Goals 2025' celebration, marking a decade since the launch of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015.


The event united nearly 1,500 students, staff, and distinguished guests, including representatives from UN, UNICEF, the European Union, WHO, and international ambassadors. 


Emceed by renowned Malaysian radio host RD, the night featured electrifying performances by top local artists such as neurodivergent band Zimi'J and award-winning singer Uriah See, culminating in an energetic finale by electronic artist DJ Blink that had the entire audience on their feet. 


A standout moment was the Rock the Goal Adaptive Fashion Show, inspired by punk rock, which showcased sustainable fashion created by Sunway Fashion Design and Technology students, highlighting diversity, inclusivity, and environmental responsibility. 


The celebration also included inspirational video messages from global figures, including celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, who sent a personal message from London praising Sunway University as a ‘Campus With A Conscience’. 


United Nations Malaysia Resident Coordinator a.i., Robert Gass, emphasised, “Young people are the heartbeat of this movement. The SDGs need your ideas, courage, and action. Music unites us and reminds us that change is possible. Together, we can achieve the SDGs and keep rocking the goals.” 


Sunway University’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sibrandes Poppema, reflected, “Hosting this landmark event exemplifies our commitment to sustainability and inclusivity. Rock the Goals 2025 showed how education can inspire action and empower a new generation to realise the SDGs.” 


Celebrated as a proud Malaysian initiative, 'Rock the Goals 2025' amplified the nation’s dedication to sustainability on the global stage.
