PENAMPANG: The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) has strengthened its grassroots presence in the Moyog constituency with the official launch of its new branch in Kampung Timpoluon Sokid.

The ceremony was officiated by UPKO Deputy President and Penampang Division Chief, Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin, who described the establishment of the branch as an important step in UPKO’s ongoing efforts to remain close to the people and ensure that every community in Moyog benefits from development initiatives.

In his speech, Datuk Donald highlighted several key infrastructure projects currently in progress, including the construction of a new bridge across the Babagon River connecting to Kampung Lutung — a long-awaited development by local residents.

“For years, villagers have struggled to cross the river, especially during the rainy season when floods make it impossible for vehicles to pass. This bridge is more than just an infrastructure project; it symbolises our commitment to improving the quality of life for the people of Moyog,” he said.

Datuk Donald also announced his intention to contest under the UPKO banner in the upcoming State Election, pledging to continue driving development in Moyog if given the people’s mandate.

“When a constituency is represented by the opposition, development allocations cannot be directly channelled to the people. Therefore, I urge the people of Moyog to give the governing party the opportunity to continue advancing progress in this area,” he stated.

Meanwhile, UPKO Kg. Timpoluon Sokid Branch Chairman, En. Juin Gindayuk, expressed gratitude that the villagers’ long-standing support for UPKO had finally materialised through the formation of an official branch. He added that the new branch would unite the youth and wider community to rally behind UPKO’s candidate in the forthcoming election.

The launch ceremony was attended by leaders from the UPKO Penampang Division, community representatives, and newly registered members from Kampung Timpoluon Sokid. The event was marked by an atmosphere of enthusiasm and unity, reflecting the confidence of Moyog residents in UPKO’s leadership and development vision.

With the establishment of this new branch, UPKO reaffirmed its commitment to being a people-centred party , one that listens, serves, and delivers, while championing balanced development and the well-being of the Moyog constituency and the wider Penampang district.
