PENAMPANG : The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) party's goal demands that they promote national unity and integration in their efforts to create a just, prosperous, liberal, and progressive society while upholding religious freedom and racial harmony.
"Our party fills the annual calendar with celebrations such as Christmas, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Pesta Kaamatan, and Indigenous People's Day in addition to supporting National Day and Sabah Day celebrations," it's President Datuk Ewon Benedick said during the UPKO National convention today.
According to him, this is UPKO's contribution to the responsibility of promoting national unity and integration.
"Our party supports the MADANI Government, which upholds humane values in governing the progress of the nation. Our party rejects extremist politics that use racial and religious propaganda."
According to him the constitution has granted the right to voice opinions but the party must support the strict enforcement of laws against those who disrupt racial and religious harmony in the country.
He also said party members must step forward to become ambassadors of national unity and allow the party to be an example beginning with support for the principles of the Rukun Negara.
"We will continue to defend the rights and empower the progress of the Indigenous People in Malaysia, not only in terms of constitution and legislation but also in their participation in the country's public administration and economy. "
"We support the Bumiputera economic agenda, and our party will continue to take necessary initiatives to enhance the participation of the Indigenous People."
" This includes supporting initiatives by Indigenous community organisations in Sabah that have signed the Momogun Declaration to build unity among the ethnic groups so that they are no longer categorised as "Others" in administrative forms."
Also present in today's event were Datuk Donald Mojuntin UPKO Deputy President, Senator Datuk Nelson W Anggang Secretary-General and Beaufort Division chief and many other UPKO stalwarts.
