Ushwane to hold carnival at Buhavan Square

PENAMPANG: The Sabah Rural Women Entrepreneur Development Association (USHWANE) is excited to announce a two-day carnival in collaboration with the Penampang Municipal Council.


This vibrant event will take place at Buhavan Square in Dongonggon, on December 7 to 8.


It will be launched by Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) on December 8.


The event will be showcasing a variety of exhibition booths, primarily featuring services from government-related agencies. Attendees can look also forward to traditional handicrafts, delicious edibles, and offerings from food trucks.

In addition to these attractions, a dance competition will be held, providing an opportunity for local talent to shine. Guests will also have the chance to participate in a lucky draw for exciting prizes.


To enhance the entertainment experience, renowned artists Rey Kimara, Enn Xaviera, and Maldini Sidney are scheduled to perform.


USHWANE Chairperson Rowindy Lawrence said, “Join us for a celebration of culture, creativity, and community! This event serves multiple vital functions that align with the association's overarching goals of empowerment, community building, and economic development.”


According to her, the carnival helps provide a platform for members of the association to showcase and sell their products and by facilitating direct sales opportunities, the carnival enables these women entrepreneurs to earn an income, which is crucial for their financial independence and sustainability.


“This income can help support their families, invest in their businesses, and contribute to the local economy. The carnival acts as a marketplace where members can present their unique offerings, ranging from handmade crafts to local delicacies, thereby enhancing their visibility and customer reach,” she said.


According to her, beyond economic benefits, the carnival plays a significant role in building a sense of community among the members. It provides an opportunity for women from diverse backgrounds to come together, share experiences, and support one another.


“This camaraderie fosters a spirit of solidarity, which is essential for collective growth and empowerment. By engaging in collaborative activities, members can strengthen their networks, share best practices, and encourage one another in their entrepreneurial journeys.”


“As Christmas is just around the corner, and I believe customers will have various choices for Christmas and other upcoming celebrations. By presenting a wide array of products, the event caters to the community's needs and preferences, allowing customers to purchase unique, locally-made items as Christmas gifts,” she enthused.


The two-day carnival is a multifaceted event that enables members to earn an income and fosters friendship and solidarity among them. It provides customers with diverse purchasing options for the festive season while simultaneously enhancing the association's visibility in the community. Through this event, the association reinforces its commitment to empowering rural women entrepreneurs and promoting local economic development.
