SANDAKAN: About 500 young people converged for the Mobile Legends 'Datuk Hiew Vun Zin @ George Championship', marking one of the biggest e-sports gatherings in the constituency.

Organised by the Karamunting division of Pemuda Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS), the tournament drew 100 teams to Pasir Putih, Jalan Bokara, highlighting how e-sports has evolved beyond mere entertainment into a dynamic platform for honing skills, strategy and teamwork.

Karamunting State Assemblyman, Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin, who officiated at the championship, said he was impressed by the passion of the young people competing professionally in the e-sports arena.

“Watching their determination, focus, and strategic play reminded me that this is the future of Karamunting, a generation unafraid to embrace new opportunities and channel their talents positively,” he said.

He added that such championships are not merely about winning or losing but provide a space for youths to gather, interact, and nurture their potential while steering clear of negative influences.

George further noted that the overwhelming response from young participants reflected their confidence in and support for the Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government.

“It shows that today’s youth believe in and stand behind the GRS government, as they realise that only a stable administration can drive Sabah’s economic growth to greater heights,” he stressed.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting grassroots sports and e-sports activities as part of efforts to develop a competitive, creative, and visionary young generation.
