KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia, in partnership with the Ministry of Communications, is offering a 50 per cent discount for return flights to 57 ASEAN destinations, exclusively for registered Malaysian media personnel.
The initiative serves as a tribute to the vital role of journalists in nation-building and recognises their unwavering commitment to informing the public and shaping national discourse.
Chief Executive Officer of Capital A, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, said the media had played a crucial role in AirAsia’s journey since its inception 23 years ago, when the airline began with just two aircraft.
“The media gave us a voice. You told our story, asked the tough questions, celebrated our victories and stood by us during our toughest times,” he said in a statement on Saturday, in conjunction with National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2025.
“This initiative also reflects our joint efforts with the Ministry of Communications to honour the role of journalism in building the nation. This token of appreciation is not just from AirAsia, but also from me personally to all of you, the unsung heroes behind the headlines,” he added.
The offer also aligns with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship this year and supports efforts to strengthen regional unity, connectivity, and cultural exchange. With nearly one billion guests flown and one of the most extensive networks in the region, AirAsia remains committed to making travel more accessible across ASEAN while supporting those who help shape public understanding.
In addition, AirAsia announced the introduction of a special aircraft livery to honour prominent Malaysian journalists who have significantly contributed to the national media landscape. The livery is expected to be launched by the end of the year.
