KOTA BELUD: Kadamaian Assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick distributed donations to 25 mosques and surau, as well as 599 asnaf (those eligible to receive tithe) across the Kadamaian state constituency.
The contributions were presented yesterday during the 'Breaking of Fast' with Mosque and Surau Committees' programme throughout the Kadamaian constituency, held at the Kampung Tambulion Mosque grounds here.
Ewon stated that this programme is one of his annual initiatives carried out every Ramadan since he became the people's representative for the area.
"This year, the Kadamaian Assemblyman's Service Centre collaborated with KOSMA Foundation to make this programme a success.
"A total of 25 mosques and surau across the Kadamaian constituency each received a donation of RM1,000 and baskets of dates, while 599 asnaf also received assistance, contributed by KOSMA Foundation and KKIP Sdn. Bhd.
"I extend my gratitude to KOSMA Foundation and KKIP Sdn Bhd for channelling these contributions," he said.
Meanwhile, Ewon, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister III and Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, and Transport, also presented a 'Kadamaian Assemblyman's Sentuhan Kasih' (Touch of Compassion) contribution of RM10,000 to the Kampung Tambulion Mosque.
He said that such programmes not only aim to assist those in need but also to strengthen the bonds of kinship between leaders and the local community.
He added that one of the main strengths of Sabah's people is the unity and understanding between different races and religions.
"This is the greatness and uniqueness of Sabah. In one large family, we often see family members adhering to different religions, some are Muslim, Christian, and perhaps other faiths, yet they can still celebrate their respective religious festivals in harmony.
"When this spirit of harmony and togetherness begins within the family, then extends to the community, neighbourhood, and district levels, I am confident it will serve as a good example for communities outside Sabah," he said.
Ewon expressed hope that the values of mutual respect, complementarity, and celebration of one another will continue to be strengthened to ensure the preservation of societal unity in the state.
"Hopefully, the values we practice will inspire communities elsewhere on how people of diverse races and religions can respect, complement, and celebrate one another," he said.
