KOTA BELUD: Residents of Kampung Pompod, Kampung Pangi, and Kampung Tobur have received RM80,000 in aid, including boats and a new house, through a collaboration between Kadamaian Assemblyman (ADUN), the Malaysian Co-operative Commission (SKM), and Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP).
Deputy Chief Minister III and Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship, and Transport, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aid includes three boats donated by the co-operative movement via SKM, plus two fully equipped boats with engines from the Kadamaian ADUN office for Kampung Pompod and Kampung Pangi.
He noted that both villages are frequently flood-hit, making these facilities vital for evacuation operations and aid delivery during emergencies.
“With these boats, residents can be assisted more swiftly, especially for emergency rescues and aid distribution while floods have not yet subsided,” he said.
Ewon made these remarks to reporters after a brief handover ceremony at Dewan Kampung Pangi here today.
In addition to flood logistics, Ewon, who is also the Kadamaian State Assemblyman, announced KKIP’s CSR contribution to build a new house for a solitary elderly disabled resident in Kampung Tobur.
He explained that he had previously visited the resident’s home with the Kadamaian Community Development Leaders Unit (UPPM) and found the existing structure dilapidated.
“Following that, I requested KKIP’s assistance through their CSR programme. I hope construction, expected to start next week, will provide him with a safer, more comfortable home,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to all involved parties, including the Kota Belud District Office, SKM, the co-operative movement, KKIP, the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), for ensuring the aid reached the communities.
Meanwhile, Ewon urged residents to maintain the facilities for long-term use, particularly during flood seasons.
“We do not want floods to occur, but when they do, these are the essential resources needed in these areas,” he said.
On long-term measures, he added that the state government, through the Sabah State Cabinet, has tasked the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) with devising solutions to address recurring floods in the affected areas.
