KOTA KINABALU: Dennison R. Indang, Chairman of the Sabah Efficient Entrepreneurship Association (PKCS), today highlighted the importance of community-driven initiatives supporting education. Speaking at the launch of the Education Equipment Assistance Programme for B40 students, organised collaboratively by the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDC), the Ministry of Education, the KOSMA Foundation, and SM La Salle, he emphasised the programme’s significance beyond mere aid.
“I would like to express my appreciation to Honourable Dato’ Haji Zamri Mohamed, Chairperson of the KOSMA Foundation, represented here by Dato’ Zazali Haron, for his ongoing concern and support for B40 children across the country,” Dennison said.
“My thanks also go to Datuk Mohd Arif Tun Sakaran, the National Focal Person for the Ministry of Education, for his unwavering support for education in Sabah. And I must recognise the three EXCO members of PIBKS present today. PIBKS plays a vital role in connecting parents, schools, and communities, embodying the spirit of community-based education.”

He described the programme as “more than just aid” but a symbol of love and care for children in need. “To struggling families, these efforts show that they are not forgotten. We want B40 children to know, they are loved, supported, and that education can truly change their lives,” he added.
Sharing a personal story, Indang reflected on his upbringing in a family of educators. “My mother was a teacher, strict yet caring, who dedicated decades to shaping young minds. She inspired me with her values of honesty, perseverance, and a passion for learning. From her, I learned that education is not just about knowledge, but about building character and heart,” he said, smiling.
He praised the ongoing work of the KOSMA Foundation and the support from the Ministry of Education, noting their crucial roles in ensuring programmes reach those who need them most. He also acknowledged MEDC’s partnership in expanding community welfare programmes across Malaysia.
While expressing regret that the Kota Kinabalu District Education Office could not attend today, Indang paid tribute to their behind-the-scenes efforts. “When parents and communities work hand-in-hand with schools, we foster a positive and vibrant learning environment. SM La Salle exemplifies this ideal partnership.”
Indang underscored the link between education and entrepreneurship, stating, “They go hand in hand. Education provides the knowledge and guidance, while entrepreneurship fosters resilience and courage.” Through PKCS, he added, many small entrepreneurs and B40 parents have seen their incomes improve, creating a more stable environment for children to learn and grow.
He said, “To students, today you receive assistance, but one day, you will be the ones helping others. Seize every opportunity, no matter how small, as a step towards your dreams. Never be afraid to dream, because it is those dreams that set apart those who wait from those who strive.”
Concluding, Indang expressed hope that such programmes would continue and expand to other parts of Sabah, including remote areas and islands such as Gaya Island. “Let us, together, the KOSMA Foundation, the Ministry of Education, MEDC, PIBKS, PKCS, and the community, make education a central part of Sabah’s development. Every contribution today is an investment in the future, our children’s and Sabah’s future,” he affirmed.
